Long Run Samoyeds
Purchase Protocol
We all know how exciting it is to bring home a puppy, but how does one go about purchasing a well-bred puppy, from a responsible breeder? There are many things to consider.
First, your initial contact says a lot. We receive frequent emails from potential owners and we truly enjoy reading each and every one of them. That said, there are a few things that will make your email stand out:
-
Introduce yourself and show interest in developing a friendship. Your breeder will be a resource of support and encouragement through your puppy's life. Therefore, it's important to your breeder to develop a relationship with you and your family.
-
Explain your interest in the breed and why you are looking to add a Samoyed to your family. We all know that Sams are adorable, but a responsible breeder loves to hear what made you fall in love with the breed they have committed to preserving.
-
Address what you know about the breeder and any questions that you may have. Breeders like to hear why you are interested in purchasing a puppy from them, what were you looking for that led you to their program? After reviewing their website, what are some things you have questions about?
-
Finally, be polite and recognize that responsible dog breeding is a labor of love. It is not easy, and it is very time-consuming to go through hundreds of puppy inquiries. A simple, well put together, inquiry can be a blessing to everyone involved.
Second, it is important to understand the protocol under which puppies are matched with their forever homes. Once we have a litter confirmed, we begin taking puppy questionnaires. The questionnaire is not a test or a quiz, but rather a document to help us know that you have done your research on the Samoyed and are prepared to provide a puppy with a suitable lifestyle. After reviewing your questionnaire, we will notify you if we are ready to move forward or if we have further questions. Once approved for the puppy list, you can send a $500 deposit to hold your place on the list.
At eight weeks of age, the puppies go through evaluations. These evaluations analyze each puppy's conformation and temperament, to best determine which puppy is suited to which forever family. As breeders, our ultimate goal is to better the Samoyed breed and produce excellence in versatility. For that reason, show quality puppies may be withheld for placement in show and/or working homes. After evaluations, we will make the final decisions regarding placements. Puppies will be placed based on suitability, with pet puppies placed to pet homes, on limited registration, and show/working/breeding prospects placed accordingly. It is our greatest desire to place our puppies with the homes that will best suit them; creating the perfect match between puppy and owner. As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions regarding our puppy placement protocol.
*Our prices are not set in advance, but average price for a well bred Samoyed puppy at this time is approximately $4,000-$5,500.
